A non-invasive intervention methodology

There are numerous advantages to using the transparent appliance, and our dental specialists recommend it as a non-invasive intervention methodology. The invisible appliance does not have visible orthodontic brackets but only a sequence of transparent aligners, from which it derives its name as a transparent appliance. The transparent aligners must be worn for 22 hours a day and removed only for eating and daily oral hygiene.

This technique is ideal for adult patients because it is invisible, but it can also be used for adolescents. Many adult patients who turn to our dental clinic express concerns about the impact a fixed appliance might have on their daily lives. Invisible orthodontics is also suitable for children with mixed dentition, meaning before the complete transition from baby teeth to permanent teeth. This type of dental appliance is highly effective in achieving a harmonious smile while having a minimal impact on daily life.

How the transparent appliance treatment works

At our dental clinic in Milan, before developing a treatment plan to correct dental alignment, our dentists conduct several examinations. Using a three-dimensional intraoral scanner, we scan the patient’s dental arches to assess which therapies are most appropriate. If there are no particularly critical issues, we recommend the use of the transparent appliance.

After capturing the dental impressions through the scan, a real-time 3D image of the aligner can be viewed. Through a video called “ClinCheck,” it is possible to preview the movement of the teeth from their original position to the ideal realignment. This preview also allows for an accurate estimation of the treatment duration.

We create a set of aligners, or orthodontic aligners, made from transparent material and free of metal wires, customized to the patient’s dentition to ensure maximum comfort.

How long does the transparent appliance treatment last?

After the production of the invisible appliance, we schedule dental visits with the patient to monitor progress and tooth movement.

The orthodontic treatment for teeth alignment using a transparent appliance varies from person to person, depending on the complexity of the issue. The aligners are replaced every two weeks, and the teeth gradually shift into place. The average treatment duration ranges from 6 to 15 months, with the average number of transparent appliances required ranging from 18 to 30.

One of the advantages of transparent aligners is that, if the patient damages or loses them, a new one can be produced in a shorter time compared to a traditional appliance.

Traditional fixed appliances can only be removed by professional dentists during dental visits. In some cases, the use of a fixed appliance can even cause difficulties in proper speech articulation. The transparent appliance treatment can correct dental misalignment without significant limitations, thanks to the possibility of independently removing the aligner.
