Dr Alessandro Rossi, case of the month on botiss.com
On Botiss.com, an 11-year long-term follow-up case involving a patient treated by Dr Alessandro Rossi has been published. The article examines the wound closure technique and the resulting soft tissue augmentation in fresh post-extraction sockets using mucoderm®. In particular, the tooth extraction concerned a single-rooted tooth and was performed atraumatically. A vertical fracture was detected on the palatal aspect of the root.
The photographs illustrate the various stages of the procedure carried out at Studio Motta Jones Rossi & Associati in Milan. For simultaneous soft tissue augmentation and socket sealing, mucoderm® was used with a combined onlay–interpositional technique.
Eight weeks after surgery, complete soft tissue closure was observed, characterised by healthy keratinised tissue and favourable integration with the surrounding mucosa. The surgical approach demonstrated several clinical advantages, including:
- minimally invasive flap elevation without coronal displacement of the mucogingival junction,
- preservation of vascular integrity,
- absence of periosteal releasing incisions,
- elimination of donor site morbidity by avoiding autologous connective tissue harvesting.
Long-term clinical and radiographic follow-up at seven and eleven years confirmed stable peri-implant hard tissue conditions and maintenance of peri-implant soft tissue volume.
